El ekeko

El Ekeko is a god of abundance much celebrated in the Andean regions of Latin America. The figurine is usually adorned with meticulously crafted miniatures of objects which are the subject of popular desires. Every new year, he is brought up and adorned. To please the god, a lighted cigarette is placed in his mount. For more information go here.

Angela Cura Mendes expands this ritual so that people can intensify their participation, replacing his cigarette with a candle that is lit to make a wish. Rather than consumer goods, he carries bags stuffed with wishes. His bag, of course, is made from copper, the Chilean gold.

  1. Hola Angela. Uf, no sabes cómo me gusta tu Proyecto Ekeko.
Felicitaciones y buena suerte!
